Lower Back Radiating Pain

Lower Back Radiating Pain

Low back radiating pain can signal a shock to your entire system. Pain in the lower back that radiates can make work difficult and daily tasks suddenly feels impossible to achieve.

Low back radiating pain is often caused by day-to-day stress on the back and back muscles. Here are a few things to do immediately for some relief. Do gentle stretches several times a day, apply a heating pad followed by ice, at night in bed pull your knees up to your chest and hold for 120 seconds, these relax your back muscles and sleep with a pillow between your legs. Check with your chiropractor about specific stretches. Dr. June Gentle chiropractor is located here in Fleming Island, serving Green Cove Springs, Orange Park, and Jacksonville, FL.

When lower back radiating pain is persistent, it’s important to identify any known causes. Causes could include a recent fall, auto accident, sport injury, twisting and bending wrong, sleeping wrong, and other injuries to your body. With low back radiating pain, it may have been caused by pulling down a heavy suitcase from a luggage rack, picking up the baby stroller to put it in the trunk, or picking up the bag of dog food in the store. Identifying the cause can help you when you talk to your doctor, whether they are a chiropractor or medical doctor.

If your gentle efforts at rehabilitation aren’t working, contact June Gentle chiropractic physician serving you in Fleming Island, Orange Park, Green Cove Springs, and Jacksonville FL. Dr. Gentle will be able to determine if you need x-rays and be able to pinpoint the exact nature of your problem.

Dr. Gentle, chiropractor will do a full exam and if X-rays are medically necessary, will then read and discuss your x-rays with you and your family to determine the nature of your injury. Dr. Gentle is experienced with low back radiating pain. If you are really in a lot of pain, in an acute stage, physical therapy such as ice, heat, ultrasound, and stretching could be applied. But this does not take care of the cause of the pain. It is only temporary relief. Dr. Gentle will then determine when and what to adjust in your spine and give specific strengthening exercises when your pain has subsided somewhat. These stretches will ad in decreasing pain and swelling which then help decrease the radiating pain, numbness, and tingling. Chiropractors are experienced in determining if there might be a permanent injury and a referral is necessary. Chiropractors can order more diagnostic tests if necessary such as an MRI or CT scans if necessary. If there is a slipped spinal disc or disc herniation, or other problems, which depends on the severity of the injury, these can be maintained with chiropractic adjustments. The x-rays and examinations may also reveal that these back problems are the result of other factors such as past injuries, which contribute to arthritis and osteoarthritis, or rheumatoid arthritis or osteoporosis. These conditions require repeated chiropractic adjustments to slow down the damage and further problems. If you suffer from frequent urinary tract infections and/or diabetes, discuss this with Dr. Gentle. It is important to know that your low back radiating pain is not due to other systemic problems, which can also stem from the spine. Dr. Gentle is trained in order to decide if immediate treatment from a medical doctor is necessary and would refer you. If you are incontinent go to the emergency room immediately.
