About Chiropractic

What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a natural preventive and rehabilitative form of complementary healthcare that concentrates on keeping people well. Chiropractic focuses on the relationship between the body’s main structures including the skeleton, the muscles and the nervous system. Misalignment of the spine can lead to many health problems and cause chronic pain. Research has shown that patients under chiropractic care have stronger immune systems and don’t get sick nearly as often as the normal population. Doctors of chiropractic attempt to get to the cause of a health problem, rather than just treat the symptoms.

Because chiropractic care is a natural approach to wellness and pain relief, treatment does not include any medications or surgery. This alternative form of care focuses on adjusting the spine to relieve pain and other problems caused by subluxations, which are slight misalignments of the spinal column. Subluxation can disrupt your body’s normal functioning of nerve impulses. Chiropractic spinal adjustment uses the application of a controlled force to a specific part of the spine to correct the misalignment and restore normal nerve transmission so your body can heal itself. Because of the emphasis on holistic health care, chiropractic is associated with the field of complementary and alternative medicine.

Chiropractic has become well-recognized and highly respected as a complementary form of treatment in the health care field. Chiropractic services are covered by many health insurance companies, including Medicare. Chiropractors are bound by the same regulations and ethics as medical doctors (M.D.) and doctors of osteopathy (D.O.)
